Playing Tourist in the Emerald City
Pike Place Market at 8:05 AM (first morning of PST and someone is late changing the clock). April is tulip time at the flower counters. One of these is not a King salmon. Tulip detail in a very dark market. A beautiful woman reads while enjoying a latte and croissant. Brilliant red.
Heavy rain made for a very quiet market morning. Unbeliveable array of tulips to choose from. Many locally grown. Go Donut Robot go! Half dozen powdered got my day started... Bicycle commuter approved! Blech! We bought our first strawberries of the year, even though they were from CA...
Fiddleheads -- high in iron and fiber (but I still wouldn't eat them). Early morning light at Pike Place Market is hard to come by. Dungeness crab; our local delicacy. One of several impressive veggie stands at Pike Place; I should eat this kind of food. Wild salmon... delicious. Fall flowers at Pike Place Market.
A tiny portion of the Post Alley gum wall. Close enough to smell it... Xanadu Sausage Fest. One part of "Shortcut" by artist Dan Webb. These guys illuminate the stairs on the Pike Place Hillclimb. Pepper havest is underway. Seattle skyline from above the cruise terminal. Yvonne enjoys some warm sun at Olympic Sculpture Park overlooking Elliot Bay.
One cannot pass by the Space Needle without taking a photo... Sosio's has some fine produce... and free samples. "Rachel" is Pike Place Market's official mascot (and piggy bang). Some fall color can still be found in the heart of downtown. Sea captain carving, with wisker nails, sits atop the famous Crab Pot restaurant down on the waterfront. Tug Snohomish, out of La Connor, WA crosses Elliot Bay.
Another member of the "Shortcut" artwork. Italian market's threshold. "Hamering Man" by Jonathan Borofsky has been standing 48-ft tall and swinging that hammer outside of SAM since 1992. Monorail criusing down 5th Avenue since before I was born... I secretly photographed Yvonne on the monorail, high above 5th Avenue. It's the original train from the 1962 World's Fair. "Sonic Bloom" by Dan Corson. Musical 33-ft tall, solar powered flowers. Yvonne and I enjoyed making them sing...
A more traditional Space Needle shot for fall. Japanese Maple late in fall, outside the Chihuly Glass Garden. The Pink Elephant is a local landmark. (It spins and the lights flash.) Sidewalk detail. Night Needle. The End. Thanks for looking...
